HVAC Chiller Technician, Austin, TX
Job Responsibilities:
- Installation and commissioning:
Installing new chiller systems, including connecting piping, electrical wiring, and cooling towers, and performing initial start-up and testing to ensure proper functionality. - Preventative maintenance:
Regularly inspecting and servicing chiller systems, cleaning cooling towers, replacing filters, lubricating components, checking refrigerant levels, and performing necessary adjustments to maintain optimal performance. - Troubleshooting and repair:
Diagnosing malfunctions in chiller systems by analyzing system readings, identifying faulty components, and repairing or replacing parts such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and control boards. - Emergency response:
Responding to service calls for urgent chiller breakdowns, quickly assessing the problem, and performing necessary repairs to restore cooling functionality. - System optimization:
Analyzing chiller performance data to identify areas for improvement and making adjustments to optimize efficiency and energy consumption. - Documentation and reporting:
Maintaining detailed records of service activities, including parts replaced, system readings, and customer details.
Required skills and knowledge:
- Technical expertise:
Thorough understanding of chiller systems, including refrigeration cycles, electrical controls, and hydraulics. - Troubleshooting skills:
Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues within chiller systems. - Hand tools and equipment proficiency:
Familiarity with specialized tools used for chiller maintenance and repair, such as gauges, wrenches, electrical meters, and leak detectors. - Blueprint reading:
Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics to locate components and understand system layout. - Safety compliance:
Awareness of safety procedures related to refrigerants, electrical systems, and confined spaces.
